These cooking challenges are a great reminder that resilience and creativity go hand in hand in the kitchen. Flexibility and adaptability aren’t just key to cooking . . . they’re essential in life too! Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful and moving story Melissa! While very different, it reminded me of cooking for my sister freshly out of the hospital with her first baby and in the midst of the first Covid lockdown. Her request for her first meal at home was for a beef soup my mum often made for us growing up (and is in fact the first thing my mum cooked for me when I came home from the hospital with baby no 2 earlier this month) and it still makes me teary thinking about it. It feels like we are all starting to live such isolated lives that sharing such close and intimate moments (both the happy and the hard ones) is becoming increasingly rare.
Thank you for sharing your story Sophia. I totally agree sharing food, connecting with all the moments is so important. I remember after we ate, one of my partners brothers sat next to his uncle and sung to him and he tried to join in. I remember feeling this is special, this needs to be remembered. xx
That is absolutely beautiful Melissa. And yes, these moments need to be remembered. It's what makes us human after all. (One of my favourite memories of my granddad is from the day before he died. We went to visit him at home, he had already been drifting in and out of consciousness for a bit and hadn't said a word while we were there. My sister and I were teenagers back then and my sister was covered in some sickly sweet perfume. As she bent down to kiss my granddad goodbye a "mmmmh" escaped from his lips. Knowing that he had been quite the ladies man in his younger days, this little moment made us all smile and chuckle!).
